St.Philip's Church
Brief
St Philips Church Hall is a valuable community resource located next to the locally listed church building. The existing hall was rather outdated and compromised by a low ceiling supported by a central column.
Response
We designed a new pitched roof supported by feature trusses that required support only on the existing external walls. This provided a more spacious interior and allowed the removal of the awkward central column. The roof design incorporated rooflights and circular gable windows to increase daylighting and natural ventilation. A new roof-mounted photovoltaic installation significantly reduces the church’s electricity bills and provides a regular income via the Government’s Feed In Tariff. The new lighting in the hall utilises LED lamps throughout.
